It's been sitting in my shop for a long time but finally got some other projects done and decided it was time. Main engine was stuck, I dont remember if it was when I got or not. Poured 50/50 acetone transmission fluid down the exhaust pipe for a couple of days. Didn't get any movement so pulled the injectors and filled the cylinders with the same mixture. It let go the next day and turns over smoothly now. Starter motor was blown up when I got it but I have a spare from a parts machine.

Ooooooh! Fat bottomed D4. Are those 24" pads? That will be another fun one to restore. Please continue to share your progress. Thanks! JM

Yes 24 inch pads, which from talking with some of the guys around here pretty rare in this neck of the woods. Tractor came from the Potlatch area.

Starter motor disassembled and waiting on gaskets and seals. My helpers got a little to ambitious with the pry bar when we took the starter motor off and didn't get one fastener off and broke the flange. My buddies shop tig welded it back together good as new.

I had some bearings from other machines that I was able to polish and fit to the crankshaft. Valves have been lapped and cylinders honed.

Ever wonder what those little slots on the top of the valves were for, me to until my wife found this old valve lapping tool. It came with 4 different bits for different valves. Makes valve lapping a joy.

Not sure why it got taken apart but I'm thinking some water intrusion. Everything cleaned and inspected and reassembled.
