We ended up getting a 2nd Cat d6 9u that came up. The starter wasn't bad to rebuild, the starter is 24 volt and turns the motor right over with the decompression in. This dozer is looking like a parts unit the more we use it. The pony is locked up, missing the mag and has a lot of crank play (forwards and backwards). The fuel filters weren't clean, there was 1 missing filter in the tower and a lot of mud with some mud on the hold down plate. When cold starting the dozer, it wants a puff of ether, then after a hour, it wants another puff. The motor has blow by. When driving the dozer the trans wines in forward not reverse, and the hydraulic blade doesn't work at the moment. Don't know the year but the dozer has wet clutch. This dozer seems to have a hard life. Does anyone know what fluid the trans, steering clutches, hand clutch and the blade take and how do you adjust the main clutch?

Do you know the name of that book in the library? I wasn’t seeing it? It looks like they changed a bit around since I’ve been in the library last
I think the proper name Is "Operators Handbook". It has oil capacity and type for each compartment, as well as adjustments, and general maintenance.
Operation and maintenance instructions.
Bob
Thank you
Pretty sure an oil clutch could be retro fitted to dry clutch machines. We have a 1947 D68U .First year they were built .With an oil clutch .
I have a 9u serial number 10,xxx with oil clutch. It has been changed because it was not until 13xxx serial number change in many other parts as well that Cat built any with the oil clutch. Not sure if there is any difference in flywheel. But the top shaft in the transmission needs to be changed to use a U joint between clutch and transmission.
Back in the 80’s and 90’s there was a company that was selling wet clutch conversion kits for the 8-9U listed in the California Farmer magazine… I want to say it was FP Smith. We ended up getting one from Tom over at Associated tractor in Stockton and I put it in a 2,000 a range 9U. It was the top shaft in the transmission, u joints, floor plates, main clutch lever, connections and the bracket that held it. Flywheel, clutch assembly and clutch housings. This was a little over 25 years ago now so I am probably missing a few things that were in the conversation kit.
