Hey guys just thought I'd share some pictures of the alternator set up I purchased for my d4 7u since it's very clean looking and I never came across it in any of my searches on the website , it could be that I just didn't search hard enough. I picked this up from George at autolec , I'm quite picky about how nice things look , and I couldn't be happier with this set up.

If he made that Adapter, WOW, He did a fine job! Will have to save this thread for when the need arises to acquire a setup like that! Thanks!

That's been the standard for years. Unlike some it has the cooling fan and flex coupling. The right choice. What was the cost if you don't mind?

I'm away and don't have the receipt with me but I'm pretty sure it was between 450$-475$ US before taxes , of course I'm in Canada and our dollar is .75$ to the US dollar right now so I got nailed with the exchange and extra taxes and duties and what not but I still feel that it was worth the price.

That sounds about typical from what I recall. Did that include the drive gear or did you supply that?

That's not including the drive gear. I'll use the one off the existing generator

That's good that you have the gear. New ones are outrageously expensive ranging from about $350 - 750.

that looks as neat as a pin to me

When you are talking drive gear is that just the gear itself or the housing and shaft for the gear ????

Please provide complete contact information for the source of your 24v adapter. I have a D2 5U that can use an alternator. Thanks

In September this year I bought an almost identical set-up for a 12v alternator from CC Battery in Texas. The cost was $462.82 including shipping to Seattle. Installed it looks almost original except for the fresher paint. For me, an all thumbs wrench, it was worth the price.
I'm not afraid of hard work; I can lay down beside it anytime and take a nap.
