I apologize if this is a little off topic. We were going to try pulling a tile plow with a D8H. What are some sources for a 24 to 12 step down? It will have a GPS monitor and rover it is powering. Not sure the amps I will need, but I see Cat offers one that puts out 10 amps. They want $300 for it. Curious what prices might be from other sources.

Hi dph, you don't need a voltage converter, just connect to the + and - posts of ONE of your batteries and you will get 12 volts. I ran cell phones, GPS battery chargers and stereos for years with no problems. ๐Ÿ‘

You might need to swap the same 12 volt feed from one battery to the other every day since long term, the battery will be chronically undercharged or at least less fully charged.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time๐Ÿ˜„

What GPS equipment are you using. I know the power requirements for the Leica 1200 or even the older 530 rovers don't draw enough to cause a problem. I had a old bag phone, a stereo and a GPS rover battery charger all running at the same time on my D6H LGP and never had an imbalance problem. I ran that setup for 5 years in the nineties and never changed the terminals that I was using. I had no problems with the batteries or the equipment I was powering.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
