I am planning to use the double Ujoint from a 24 front cable control for the drive shaft on my Scoopmobile, but it has laid in the dirt for quite a while. Since it's a contortions exercise in steel to install one, I'd like to install new cross kits. The number for both crosses is 6F4343. Cat can no longer supply unless they are in the surplus parts department, which I have not yet tried.

I measured them up and came up with an OEM L365N Rockwell cross, or a 2-2276 Neapco. Neither of these joints have an on-line application listed for Cat or anybody else. I just went by caliper measurement.

Can someone out there interchange the Cat number 6F4343 and tell me if I am correct, they will fit? The Cat dealer listing had a number: 5B JN2256 in connection with the 6F4343, but I couldn't do anything with that either.

Somebody, please tell me if I'm whistling in the wind here, or did I find a replacement number that is correct and available.

Thanks in advance,

Jack

Many thanks, O.M. I should have just come here first. You have always come through.

The on-grid power plant I put together some years ago with help of many here on ACMOC is still functioning as planned, heating my shop and saving me $$$. I've pretty well stopped repairing tractors. I just don't want to get into computer controls.

Best to you and all on the BB.

Well, Old Magnet was correct. The specified cross kits fit just fine in the end yokes 5F8501, but didn't fit so good in the center yoke 5F8500 because it's all twisted out of shape. Has anybody got one of these they would part with?

Machine shop tried to press it into some semblance of the part it's supposed to be, but I think we might have made it worse, certainly no better. The ears are too close together to get the snap rings into the groove as a result of the twist on the whole piece. I didn't think it looked all that bad when I salvaged it, but when a shoved a piece of shafting through the bearing holes, it was pretty crooked.

Again, does anybody know where I might get this part: 5F8500 for a #24 control? Your help is always appreciated,

Jack

Thanks O.M. but I would have take the double u-joint apart to machine it for the Scoopmobile, and I already have the new cross kits, and the end knuckles I have are OK for machining. I bit the bullet and paid for the center, new from Cat, still a current supplied part for a multitude of front control variations apparently. Your info did help me e-search for some good data on this part.

It's worth quite a bit to get this rolling scrapiron pile out of my shop. and besides, I really like the machine for a farm loader and plan to keep running it.

Thanks again,

Jack

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
