Which series #24 are you inquiring about? The 33E1-up or the 8D501-up versions. Also are you considering rear mount or just the front mount versions?

Hi Kris,
cannot answer all your queries but the scan below from the SRB for Cat CCU's , Form No 10088-2, Dated-4-56, will help with some of them.

First mention of a 20 Series Cat CCU , the 25 CCU, I found in my incomplete Service Magazine Literature that makes mention of the 25 CCU sometime in early 1946 on page 17--I do not have the article just what is detailed in the Index for that year.
Next mention I found of CCU's in said literature is Service Mag. April 14 1947 that tells of improvements to the 24 CCU's.
You can make of that as you wish, looks like 24 CCU's were available late 1946 or early 1947--I stand to be corrected.

At The Dealer here we were still fitting CCU's up into at least the mid to late 1960's until customers accepted that Hydraulic Controls were the way to go--from memory loggers seemed to be the ones that stuck with CCU's the longest.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

1946/47 looks right on the 8Dxxxx models. I couldn't find the introduction date on the 33Exxxx models which preceded and overlapped with the 8D models. 33E installations date back to 1935 (1H models). 8D installations go back to about 1940 but these are retro fit dates, not the actual year of introduction.
