Hello Everyone-
I'm looking at purchasing a Cat 231D late 80's , (I'll be digging a pond) anyone own one , Pro's/con's of machine , 3208 T engine
I have hard pan clay soil W/ some shale ( upstate NY ) Does the 3208 T( 200 hp claimed) provide ample power to run an 80K Lb machine ? the undercarriage is weak, I am trying to work on owner for 12K purchase price.
any insight will be appreciated
Thanks Tim

i Always heard that the machine cat made between the 225 and the 235 : the 231 was not that good, bad of both worlds , so consider an other option if you have that.... goodluck!!!

The 231 is a 225 with the smoke screw turned up on a 235 under carriage which if badly worn would indicate a lot of hours on it. If you want production from an old piece of constructon equipment be prepared for some expensive repairs

the deere wath weight is it? , ( here it has the name Hitachi, or fiat Hitachi) it were good machines, for all machines is the rule the more hours on the clock the worse they are or maintanance is more required, for old machines is also the problem the rubbers seals are now getting more hard/ solid so more chance for leakage.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
