I think my brakes are stuck. The brake pedels will not move at all. The steering levers move and they appear to be releasing the steering clutches. But the sprockets will not rotate. They move a little but I guess that is just the play in the bull gears. If the brake bands are stuck how difficult will it be to remove the final drive housings from the transmission and repalce the brakes?

Thanks

This is an easy task. You would need to remove the tracks and get the track frames out of the way. Then there are about 10 or 12 bolts that hold the steering clutch housings to the main tranny case. Once those are out the otnly other thing you need to disconnect the brak linkages. Should come right off.

Thanks. I was afraid that the stuck brakes might have prevented the final drive housings from coming off.

Peter when you get the brake bands out and if they are worn down you can buy the brake band material and the rivets from a place called McMasterCarr they have a web page just google it. I had to redo some bands for my Cat Ten hope this helps😊

Unless you are just looking for work try backing out the 2 set screws on each brake band, 1 under the tractor and other stickin out of back case, take the inspectiom cover off and use long punch and hammer to rap the band few times to unstick from drum , just undoing the those 2 bolts.

Unless your part of a big company, McMaster Carr won't deal with Canadians.

Before you tear everything down, make sure that the pedals are not stuck to the bracket they pivot on. It took us several days to get the pedals loose on our 22 and several more days to get them to work one pedal at a time.
It was a joy to drive with both brakes at the same time.

I'll second Willie and DM, be sure all the hardware moves before you assume its the brakes...

I'm tearing everything down anyway. It's going to be a total dismantle and restotation, so everything is coming apart sooner or later.

Thanks for all the advice.
