Redoing the fuel line on my 212 1R and ran into trouble with the fuel shut off valve. Valve was stuck and wouldn't turn. Long story short, I have the valve apart to clean and refurbish. I see it has some packing in it. Having no experience with these valves, I'd like to know where to get packing and the correct way to repack it. Is there a substitute packing I could use? What is left is brittle and came out in small pieces. Thanks in advance.

PS. GarlicPete, if you see this, Thanks again for that pinion plate, worked like a charm. Starter pinion works like new.

Go to hardware and purchase a length of faucet stem packing string. Should have a graphite/teflon impregnated string you can wind around the valve stem under the cap before you install the whole thing in the valve body and tighten the cap down.

Such a product may not be commonly available everywhere. I also have raveled it out of pump shaft packing "rope". I usually keep some of that round for a couple irrigation pumps. Would be happy to send you a few inches in an envelope if you need.

You can also use teflon tape wound under there.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

Thanks for the offer CC. I'll try to find some, local. I have several other projects that will need some. May try the teflon tape.
