had mag rebuilt. trying to install back on 212 grader. Am I correct in thinking the #1 cylinder is the cylinder closest to the pony engine flywheel?
I am turning the pony engine until I feel compression and seeing the mark on the idler gear and I cannot see anything on the flywheel rim for markings.
Thanks in advance.

On the top back side of the pony there is a pipe plug, 1/2 or 3/4", that will be right under the mags back edge when the mag is installed. Take the plug out and there is a timing mark made with a punch on the gear tooth. You will need a flahlight. Match up with the punch mark on the mag. One gear has two teeth punched and one gear has one tooth punched so stick the single between the two. Mine are highlighted with yellow permanent marker so are very easy to find. When the mag is in it is easy to see if the marks are in alignment before you turn it over.
