My manual states the power control shaft is protected by a shear pin on "later motor graders". Apparently mine's earlier, and I was just wondering what is supposed to protect it. Accidents are bound to happen, and am trying to think of ways to save the equipment. maybe a soft key in the vertical driven shaft? Or, since it's mounted on a taper, no key at all? Thanks, Fritz

I'm only familiar with the flanged shear pin arrangement but I suspect the taper shaft with specific torque specs is the safety release for what you describe.

Check the old and late parts books, that part may be backwards convertable

When I got my 212 some had replaced the shar pin with a grade 8 or 9 bolt. Results was a broken power shaft, requiring removal of engine to fix it
Had a hard time finding a replacement/ used shaft
