as i wanted to adjust the maximum rpm's of my fifteen i ordered a lasertachometer to check,
as i had problems before with the cooling of the engine (now solved beacause i cleaned the radiator inside and outside) i also ordered a infrared thermometer for checking the temperatures,
they arived today and i used them strait away.
when i got the tractor , the revs were much to high ( i think around 2000 RPM full trottle, this was because the former owner placed a other carburetor and a too short governor rod, i placed a longer and adjustable rod and now i adjusted the revs at the designed maximum of 1250 rpm full trottle.
the temperature is also ok now.

How much did the new "toys" cost you? I have a mechanical Tacho but you need to get access to the end of the shaft , much easier with
the digital type.

I have both of those, or at least ones that look very similar. I checked the tach against a Cat service tool photo tach one time when calibrating a hydraulic fan. I found it to be pretty accurate, so long as you hit the target just right. When it was off, it was off by quite a bit, so it was pretty obvious the laser wasn't in the right spot. After I'd had it about 6 months though, it just stopped working. I had travelled with it in my laptop bag, so I am not sure if it got damaged from that or not. For the price, I can't expect too much durability.

The thermometer has come in handy too, although I haven't had a good chance to check it's accuracy against anything calibrated.

Those are two handy tools to have, you'll probably use the thermowhatzit more than you realize and not only on old Cat critters 😆
