if you look under the tag's it will be stamped in to the steel. look at the back side of the motor just below the valve cover on the block look for rivet holes if there missing. upper left hand side of on the back of the trans case above the draw bar you will find it too. but can be block if yours has a winch installed. sounds like the clutch brake pads are wore out or needing adjustment. lets get the Number nailed down first. so you can find some manuals to help you out. congrats on the in toy it's all down hill now you can't get rid of yellow fever once you got it lol 😊

The tag on the left rear side of the block just under the head will also be the tractor serial number if the original engine is still in it. The tag located on the back left transmission case will have the serial number stamped into the transmission case behind where the plate was. The 2 rivets or holes will show the spot. Take some brillo pad or 3M grit to it to remove some paint and shine it up without tearing it up to bad. There is no valve cover tags.

Does it have the oil clutch? Not sure when they switched from dry to oil but 1958 must be close. Are you pushing the clutch ahead hard enough to activate the clutch brake. Oil clutches take some time to warm up before they release due to the friction of the cold oil.

I guess you know that you have to push the clutch lever forward hard and hold it how ever long it takes to slow down the clutch plates.(unless it has the oil clutch)the clutch does not slow the motor down, so it helps helps to reduce engine RPM with the throttle. How do you know the year model?

The only thing I know about the year was what the seller said but he did not know to much about the machine so I am skeptical of the year

I really had to clean up my #44 control to find the stamped number underneath the rust, but it was important to only use a wire brush / Brillo approach so as to not damage the numbering. Once I found them, I then used my pick to clean out the stamped numbers and then just ran a marker pen over them. Easy to see now.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
