Fired her up after setting for a year, main clutch would not release, lever works just clutch would not release. got it in gear by rocking bucket and away we went with clutch disengaged. Applied brakes and got her to stop. Played with it for a while and she free up to a point. While operating started hear clung clung clung, diengage clutch noises quite. Stop and toke top cover off, I could not see anything wrong. Pulled the oil plug and filter and found pieces of a brass ring. I would say ring would have been about 6 to 8" around maybe an 1/8 thick and 1" face with oil groves cut in it. Does anyone have any Idea what or where this mite have been. I pulled broken pieces of this from oil drain hole and from inside filter screen big chunks to small.

Sounds like one or both of the thrust washers out of the sliding collar. Can you determine if it has four radial oil grooves?

Hi Team,
scan below should get you there.

NOTE the oil pump must be removed before lifting the clutch assembly out. If the clutch centre bearings are worn the pump drive shaft will be bent, If the pump shaft has been bent the shaft will suffer fatigue failure in service.
Check shaft/gear for running true any time the pump is removed. Have fixxed several clutches with pump fatigue failed pump shafts. Gear falls into clutch mechanism--not usually a pretty sight, some were lucky and the gear got flicked out.

Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Sorry for out of order load. Were loaded in order individually this time---sigh

Items #8 and #10.

When removing the clutch. don't forget to remove the bolt on the bottom that attaches the pump suction bell and line....the one they don't tell you about in the manual.

Hi edb,
It's a Mickey Mouse solution to a Mickey Mouse BB but try dinking around with the drag and drop images after you upload your list. Put them in the order you want for final posting and that seems to work sometimes, maybe.
Direct list upload only seems to work on the Heavy Equipment Forums but historically it has had problems also.

Hi OM,
Mmm, just added some attachments to an Email with Outlook Express and I tried to load in order using the Ctrl button --all went well until they loaded with the biggest file size first--not intended order--so maybe the problem is in the Windows XP -- Outlook Express or what ever transfers images within our 'puters-- do you want to know about Cat Machines ? I can maybe help, I am not any help with 'Puters though.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

PS. OM, I did read of that drop and drag in a post Megan did somewhere --but--I had tried something like it with out success. I guess I will keep at it next post with pix.

If the rain will stop going to have a try at it tonight. Looks like I'm going to be standing on my head for a while. Also if you don't mind me asking where are you'll getting your pictures from. The books I got show hardly any of this.

Any suggestions on where to get parts at?

How common is to happen and any clue what the cause mite have been? Just wanting to make sure that I am not just putting on a band aid and just have to go back into it again to fix the real issue.

How thick should the clutch lining be?

Or would you just replace it while in there?

from the looks of the oil pump screen I am having a hard believing that it could be getting oil to pump.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
