Hello everybody! I am new to this form. I have a 1954 caterpillar D4 that was left at the house that I bought so I figured I would try to get it going. I started with The Pony motor. Cleaned the fuel tank, cleaned the sediment filter and got a spark. Pulled it over and got to run for maybe 20 seconds I was excited. Once it shut down, I figured I would. I have to clean the carburetor, not know much about these Zeus carburetors. I watched a few videos none of the videos until the video I watched after I took the carburetor off explained not to twist the bowl assembly. So yeah, I broke off the idle jet that goes through the throttlebody into the bowl assembly. So I watched a bunch of more videos Sasquatch I believe his name is showed where he had the same issue and he drilled it out. Who problem is I don’t know how far I should’ve drilled it out or if I drilled it out too far and if so, is there a way to fix that or somewhere I can find a new bowl assembly. Thank you all very much for your assistance.

it looks like there is still some brass in there you may not have gone too far. those more knowledge able on these carbs would know more.

you can still get some parts for these zenith carbs they were also used on john deere equipment of similar vintage

Thank you for replying. I seen that, but I wasn’t too sure if there was supposed to be some kind of seat in there or not, and I couldn’t find any information on it. I have not ran into this nor Have I rebuild a carburetor before so this is definitely new to me. I do see that there is a lead plug on top where the gasket goes. I was going to drill that out to look down in there and see what I could see if anything. I was going to try continue taking the brass out, but I couldn’t find any information as to if there was a seat or what not in there. In the picture right by my thumb is that light plug I wasn’t sure if that would be a good idea of taking that out. I did take all the other plugs out and clean all the passages already now I’ve ran into the fact where the main jet is stripped out must’ve happened when I remove the old one so if I could find a new bowl for this, it would be amazing. It would definitely help.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
