In 1953, the Northwest's "Trans Mountain" oil pipe line used a lot of highway yellow equipment in the building of their pipeline. There is some red equipment being used too. Several of the cat skinners shown in the videos probably view this ACMOC website daily. When on the youtube site, if you click on show all and go from #1 on, they fit together well. Thank God they got it done before somebody realized it was dangerous, or they would probably still be there today!!!

Yo yoing is common when working on mountain sides. In this case, the fellow parked at the crest of the hill or just parked on a secure location, is probably lowering another bulldozer down the mountain wall at the end of his winch cable. The bulldozer on the mountain wall is clearing the right of way for the pipeline. Next equipment to be yo yoed on the end of the cable may be a back hoe and so on. I have had a couple of friends that have had the cables break on them while they yo yo bulldozed and it had sent them tumbling down the mountain side. Both of them lived but were broken up pretty badly for the rest of their lives. K. T. Yates was one of them on his International. He lowered his dozer over the side at the end of his winch cable. He ran too much cable out and the last wrap of cable on the drum pulled loose sending him to the bottom and permanent retirement.

thanks for the link Steamer----------that's some great video.👍

There was lots of pipeline activity across the country in the early 1950's------we had several pipelines to cross the Mississippi River near us at that time. My dad had some dozers and a drag line---------did a good bit of contract work with different lines for several years.

We had a TD-24 on contract that left the East side of the River at our farm------and basically worked its way to Buffalo, NY. His operator worked it until they basically got too far from home for comfort------and then the pipeline furnished the operator. They shipped it home on a rail car----dead as a hammer (well worn). I have no idea as to how many hours----or what the hourly rate may have been. But the tractor had "earned its keep" by then. My dad had to take the D7 and winch it off of the flat car to bring it back down to the farm. Then did a complete rebuild on it---------and worked her somemore.
