Well I was playing with my cat pushing logs and one snuck under the blade jamming into my side panel and fuel line. Not sure how bad of shape the line is in other than a kink that I can see but it started leaking under my feet. Im looking for ideas on best material for replacement. The local cat dealer was no help the best they could come up with was some copper line and fittings, I'm not fond of putting that on there. Any help is appreciated!

My D2 had/has a joiner under the floor plate - if yours has one, it might just need a retighten.. or not : )

I've had plastic 1/2 inch air brake line with compression fittings on my 7U for several hundred hours with no trouble. Cheap, easy to install and wears very well.

I think copper is what the originals were made of, with the exception of war time where copper was spared as much as possible.

I think the biggest problem will be adapting to the inlet of the fuel transfer/lift pump. Seems like all the old Caterpillars used a bullet shaped ferrule that is soldered on the end of the copper line. That's probably why all of mine have a piece of fuel hose clamped over the ends of the remaining good sections of the original line.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

My last D4 7U I made a new fuel line as by using 1/2" steel compression fitting at the pump to keep the bullet Cat end. Then to 3/8 hydraulic hose with pipe thread at the end to adapt to the fuel tank.

Believe the original lines were steel. You can remove the line, straighten, silver braze any crack. I do that for JD orchard tractors a few times a year.
