I bought this dozer back in our Oklahoma drought back in January to do some work on my swampy area (started raining ever since!). Anyways, old pony motor, and engine/hyrdraulics run GREAT. I had to adjust clutch after about 20 hrs. (I was bad about riding it, I admit). Ran great for about 10 more hourse (less riding). She got bogged up when I took too deep of a bite, and I quickly threw it out of gear. I then had to readjust, but this time I had to spin the arms about a full turn (I knew something was wrong). Leveling out a spot yesterday she was running great, then, it wouldn't "snap over". Limped it toward barn and now the clutch won't engage at all. Pulling back on lever, there is a lot of resistance. Clutch smells like brake pads that got hot.

Am I looking at new clutch pad? Any instructions? I have a mechanic buddy (luckily) who's coming this weekend to help out...

Yes sounds like the clutch disc has come apart. It might be possible that the adjustment has backed off after your last adjustment.

what part of Okla are you in? I had a D4 that I just sold, that the clutch collar was not tightened down good after adjustment, and it spun down tight, so clutch would mnot snap over center, could move it by holding the clutch lever back, but it smelled like it was burning. I changed out the clutch, but the old one was not in bad shape, and I still have it here if you want it. about 4 teeth are missing on it, but don't think that will cause any problems. I got my new disc from General Gear I believe, great service, fast delivery. Dennis

painter... I'm in Braggs... small town near Muskogee.... That "might" be what mine is doing, not sure. Buddy is coming over to help this weekend who is pretty good diesel mechanic, and has worked on these before. I WISH i was a better mechanic than I am... I bought this dozer just to do some work then resell it, I think after we fix it, she's going up on the market!

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
