The radiator on the D6 I am restoring needs a good flush and a few repairs. What is the best way to remove it? Does the whole nose need to come off? Thank you, god bless. Happy New Year everyone.

Yup,

you're going to need to remove the hardnose and the hydraulic pump to access the rad on that unit. not hard to do, just heavy. easier if you remove the c frame first.

The radiator will come out the top. May have to remove the water pump and it is rather heavy probably over 200lbs been a while since i did one but I have another one to do soon by the look of it.

One of the good things about the cable dozer setup

A few small bolts and the cover over radiator comes off exposing the whole top tank!
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

I have remove the hardnose to get to mine. I contemplated tipping it forward on one bolt on each side. Not sure that would work or not.

I would say the weight is no more than 1500 lbs because my farm loader is not good for much more, but did not struggle to lift it off.

With the radiator out do a full rodding of the tubes. It helps a lot and with care a you can do it yourself.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
