Several years ago I bought a 112 Motor Grader - 3U5200. Very original, low hour machine, but prior owner let rainwater get in exhaust stack. All four pistons in the Diesel were very badly rusted stuck. I finally moved machine into the shop for repair. Had to deal with piston and liner removal. Removed cylinder head and made flat plates to cover Cylinder #1 and #4 with ports for hydraulic connection. Plumbed #1 and #4 in parallel and applied hydraulic pressure with CAT service tool. At about 1000 psi, #1 and #4 broke free and pistons moved down, as crank rotated #2 and #3 rods moved up and pushed out pistons and liners as unit (pistons still stuck in liners). #2 and #3 liners were removed and taken to shop press to remove pistons. Now preparing to install new liners and rings.

Hi Kent,
That's a pretty novel way to press your stuck pistons/sleeves. Would want to be a little cautious with the pressure though but your application doesn't sound to bad. Guess you didn't have much trouble with leak down.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
