I have a 112 grader 2M999 with the D4400, it has a pony but does not run, and this pony is rope start only. The question I have is, would a pony motor from a 7U D4 work on the D4400, the 7U pony is electric start.

The basic pony block and innards are the same but just about everything that bolts to the block will need to be changed to D4400 arrangement. As far as the electric start you will need to compare parts book arrangements as not all components are the same. Starters are different with the D4400 version being push button activated where the later units are solenoid switch.

Hi rockymnt,
OM is correct, the only other thing to look out for is the water inlet to the top of the pony motor. On the early 6U/7U it will be the same as the D4400 engines, the later 6U/7U uses an elbow fitting to connect the two together.
If this is the case you will have to change the top (manifold) of the pony motor over.

Hope this helps
