I found 4 Cat pistons in a storage I cleaned out. Cant find any info on them and no one seems to be selling them online from what I can see. There are 4 of them brand new in a box, 1 of them is actually wrapped In thick brown paper with instructions on how to run tractor after installation. There was a paper Cat tag inside box with part # 6B-4011 but inside piston it says 6B-3912. I believe the date on the tag says 10-28-41. Hope someone responds back with some info or interest in buying them. Was actually looking at scrap value before finding this site. Thanks in advance, Jimmy.

Used in the D13000 and D17000, etc, crosses to 3H1438.
Thanks for responding Josh. I'm not quite sure if your speaking a different language or not. Haha. I should have mentioned that I am completely clueless when it comes to tractors and such. My extent of Cat knowledge is the 3 hours of research I put in on the computer this evening. An hour and a half of which was found on this forum. Which I am rather glad I found because I was finding nothing of real value on the interweb.
So as far as the D13000 and the D17000. Around what year would those (I'm assuming tractors) be? Are these pistons worth any value? I imagine someone out there that is trying to restore one of these beautiful machines would have some interest in original mint parts? Would you happen to know about the value of them? I by no means am trying to get rich, just trying to recoup some of the money I spent on buying the storage they were found in. Like I said, before i found this site i was having no luck and was looking at scrap value. I would hate to destroy something that someone needs to bring back a piece of history. Any further info you can help me with would be much appreciated. Thanks again, Jimmy.

They look like 6 ring pistons. Would fit any early recesed valve 5 3/4 engine.
All ready fitted with rings.
Makes me envious.

I think the fellow would like to know what machines use the D13000 and D17000 so he could advertise the pistons. I am sure they will bring some bucks and make someone happy to get them. Just my 2 cents worth. Grant.

Jimmy,
Those pistons were originally for certain Caterpillar engines produced around 1939, but will probably fit a broad range of Caterpillar engines with the same bore size and used in many different tractors, marine engines, electric sets and more. It would be good to post more pictures of the different sides of the pistons, and be prepared to answer questions and provide measurements, so prospective buyers can decide if they will work in their application.
Caterpillar parts were often upgraded and the part numbers could sometimes be shown to cross, or be usable in other applications, but sometimes the parts may not show a cross in the book and need to be compared side by side to parts they may replace.
Here is a little reading on the same or similar parts.

Thanks Grant for the reply. I appreciate everybody's effort in helping me with info but I honestly feel like they are speaking Latin or something. I need a Caterpillar for dummies book. Lol. You are correct though trying to get some history about the pistons and the machine they go in for me and some info on about what they go for and maybe if anybody knows someone that might be interested. Maybe another website that fellow Cat restorers go to to buy original vintage parts.
Thanks for any and all help, Jimmy.
