Track pin press for d7

I am looking for a track pin press to swap 2 links in my d7-3t. I cannot seem to budget the pins with a sledge so I'm looking to buy/rent/borrow a press to get my cat pushing dirt again.

I'm in California about an hour north of San Francisco.

Thanks.

I don't have a pin press to help you, sorry.

I did have an observation though. I'm not sure if you're familiar with the track design. On normal links, just removing a pin will not allow you to remove the link intact.

The bushings are pressed into the inner links, but have ends which protrude through the inner link and sit in a pocket in the outer link. The track is assembled by taking a bushing, pressing a left and right link onto the bushing, then assembling the next track link one side and the other around the protruding end of the bushings.

This is not true of master links, which have a shorter bushing and separate spacer. On master links, only the pin passes through both the inner and outer link, allowing the track to be split.

There are only two ways to separate a non-master link. One is to remove the track pad and pin, then press each link off the bushing separately so that they disengage from the next link. This can only be done from one end of the track, too.

The other way is to remove the pin and then cut the protruding ends off the bushing with a sawzall or torch, or just cut the whole thing off. Of course either of these approaches sacrifices the link and it can't be reused.

You may be talking about a newer set of tracks with different design or you may already know this, but thought it might help to post the observation.

Pete.

Thanks Pete!

I will check again today, but I believe I have a chain with lots of master links...

I have one new link and as I was pounding on the pin I noticed the next link has a small crack too. Since I'm in there I'm going to replace both I think.

Thanks
