Needed in Australia D318 crankshaft

Neighbours are in need of a servicable crankshaft for a D6 8U/ D318 engine. No 6 bigend has failed and their crank is already 40 thou undersize.
Something in Australia would be a lot easier so just wonder what might be around.

Hi Colin, wasn't there a rough D6 sold at a clearing sale near you a month ago, is this the machine?

Wrong one Mike that was D6B with later engine D333? This one had been around here for several years.

Colin, if you can't find something reasonable local, compare getting #6 welded up and turned down plus one bearing, to the cost of importing another crank plus a set of bearings. It worked out in favor of the former with my D2 crank and I'm state-side. Welding #1 or #6 is generally ok because it's at the end of the crank so does not add much appreciable bend to the crank i.e. not enough to warrant straightening it. Your mileage may vary as they say...

Cheers,
Neil

Thanks Neil that may be an option but only if the rest of the crank journals are really good as it is at max under size now 40 thou.
Have found out engine is not origional as it is No 32A135. Not sure what it came out of possibly a grader. Sure looks like D318 to my eye and a very experienced cat mechanic who is looking at it. Could be a long job.

Don't know my numbers by heart but if that d6 is a very early model I have some new cranks and bearings (all standard) in crates/boxes. I won't be back near a computer until Monday.

Hi Floyd thanks for looking. 3F5020 is the only number I can find for a D318 crankshaft in 8U/9U books so hoping they are all the same. I have a suspicion some grader engines may be different. thanks colin
