Cleaning up the yard. This cable control unit was on our RD7. It is missing the lever and one piece of linkage on the left side but the right side is working and had new lining put in just before the tractor blew up. $100. I'm in North West Arkansas. 479-236-0552

That is a very interesting cable control unit. What brand is it? It is different than any I've ever seen. Would it be difficult to fabricate replacements for the missing handle and linkage? If that can be done, do you feel the other side would likely work, too?

Can anyone comment about other tractors that this might fit on? I wonder about later D7s or even some of the early D8s. For example, would this fit on a 1H D8? How about a 9U D6? How about a 2H D6?

I've got lots of questions about the similarities and differences of the PTO mounts on the early D6, D7 and D8 tractors. I think that the D6 series from the beginning, maybe even back to the Thirty Five and Forty have the same PTO mount and shaft requirements up to just before the D6C. Even the D6C may be the same. Please correct me if I'm wrong on that.

I know less about how long the early D7 and D8 mounts went unchanged, and whether a D7 and D8 are interchangeable.

Haha! a couple of years ago when I parted out the tractor, I had the info you asked, but now I have no idea where I put it. I'll go out tomorrow and pick up the unit and look at the info again. The mount looks the same as my D6-8U but I couldn't be sure without trying it on. The pto shaft is extremely home made. (but it worked fine on the RD7.) The handle is just 1/4 x 1 1/2 flat bar and there is a small steel roller missing but it might be in the toolbox from the tractor, which I still have. I'll look. Yes, there should be no reason why both sides shouldn't work with a little tlc. Look back here tomorrow for more pics and info. # 25's and #26's go for around $500 + exchange here where I live. I just want this one to go to a good home.

I lifted the unit and looked all over it and the only identifying info is the UnicasT emblems that are cast into some places near part numbers. The mounting appears to be very universal. Probably fits many machines. The linkage that is missing on one side is actually home made on the other side. Plain yokes and rods will make nice looking replacements. I would rework all of the linkage if I were using it. No ser tag or nameplate found.

About 20 years ago, my cousin was cleaning out a pond here in NW Arkansas with the RD7. There was some water in the pond so it was pretty muddy. I believe there was straight water in the cooling system. Anyway, one of the several very large rocks somehow got between the blade and the tractor and it broke the bottom tank in the radiator. The water came out, unnoticed and there wasn't even enough to make steam when it overheated. The engine melted down pretty fast. The family didn't have any money back then to fix it, so it sat. Three or four years ago I parted the tractor out and scrapped the crude home made blade. I still have a few parts, fenders, fuel tanks (main and pony) valve covers and tool box. Any interest in those things, let me know.

Hey Pete, I don't know much about D7-8 PTO's, but the three cylinder tractors have their own specific PTO that is different from the 4-r, 9-u. also the transmission coupler for the three lungers is an oddball and vary scarce. I've got a nice belt pulley for my D 35 but I'm needing a coupler.

If the fenders are in good shape I would be interested in them. Also need the entire drawbar assembly if you didnt scrap it.

Yes, I have fenders and drawbar. I opened the lid on the toolbox on the fender and got chased away by wasps, so no pics yet. I'm working on it though.

Pete, sorry, it never had side covers.

Catfan, Yes I have the fenders with tool box mounted. They are pretty straight and solid. The cast iron support braces are still on them. I still have the drawbar assy and the mounting studs.

Bruce, I found the missing parts to the control unit in the tool box just as I remembered.
