I always like reading your monthly craigslist posts. Thanks for taking the time to post them.

I get a kick out of some of the asking prices. I know picking an asking price is somewhat subjective, but it seems to me some folks have an inflated idea of what something is worth. I don't consider myself as a "the deal is everything" type so paying a fair value is fine with me. But really, an old D7 and a hydraulic scraper for $26K? That seems out there!

That one looks the better of the two and was not one that I was referring to above. His price is fair from what I can see. I don't see any fuel tank but he may have it. Good luck with your inquiry. I bought a TWENTY off Erik's list two months back and did not even know I needed a TWENTY, so be careful!

About six years ago I was looking on craigslist for a Cat 22. I found two. One was listed for $2,200 with pictures and the other listed for $2,700 but no pictures. They were located about 50 miles apart so I responded to both ads asking for phone numbers and pictures. $2,200 responded with more pictures and a phone number. $2,700 responded with a vague location and comment about it being used on the "farm", good condition, etc., but no phone number.

I made arrangements to see $2,200 and also sent replies to $2,700 trying to get an address and time to meet. No response as to location, etc. so I only got to check out one of them. I talked to the owner of $2,200, took more pictures, and operated it, etc., then went home to ponder. I tried again to contact $2,700 but no response.

I went back to $2,200. We agreed on a price and I went home to make transportation arrangements. Lo and behold, a couple of days later I received a response from $2,700 stating that they still had the Cat 22 for sale but had lost the radiator cap and wondered if I was still interested in it. Of course, no phone number was included.

The ad for $2,700 was taken off craigslist the same time as the ad for $2,200!.

Of course, this has nothing to do with craigslist, the same thing could have happened in the local newspaper etc.
