Help, need a pony motor for d2 3J.

Hi all, I have been lurking for a while (trying to educate myself a bit). First time posting, we'll I started tearing down my (new to me) D2 3J and found a crack on the right lower side of the pony motor block. To make matters worse, someone did a poor welding attempt at fixing it as we'll. as far as I can tell, everything else is good, and the main runs well. Anyone have any thoughts where I can find a replacement pony? I'm in Boulevard, California.

Does the bad looking crack repair leak? it is pretty common for those pony motors to have a freeze crack and repair, if the pony runs good otherwise, if it don't leak, leave it alone, or try and repair the repair if it leaks.

Thanks for the info. To be honest, i don't know if the pony runs or not. When i got it, the previous owner pull started the dozer to prove it runs. Ive pulled a lot of parts off for sandblast/powder-coat, and with the work invested i was hoping to locate a "good" pony motor.

This is a better pic of the weld (and after looking closer) there is a small leak in the back. The second pic is the state of the tear down and a few finished parts.

A pin hole, I'd drill it, then braze or weld it shut.
Your choice?
As previously stated repaired blocks is common.

It looks like a big old cop has made a felony stop on your dozer. Driving without a seat I'd bet.:lol:

Those pads caught my eye, I guess they're made with the holes for working in sand?

they cut holes in the pads for snow at least in snow country it the norm

Understood, it looks like the consensus is to try and fix the weld. Unless a good block turns up, I'll look around for a knowledgeable shop. As welding and the equipment is out of my area of expertise so to speak. Yep, i thought the same thing when i saw the holes in the pads, either sand or deep mud was my guess too.

Newuser, I repaired cracks in both sides of the block on mine. It still leaked some so then I ran "Stop-Leak" in it. The leak has all but stopped. I'll just keep running that stuff in it until it gums up for good. The leaks make zero difference to the running of the engine so that's good news.

just jb weld them i have fixed many their is not that much pressure in the system just make sure its clean and drill a small hole at each end of the crack so it will not keep running i have also welded with 8018 as well as my mig with o 35 wire and i have one eng thats ben running for 15 yrs that way no trouble but you have to drill a small hole on each end so it will not keep running good luck :thumb:
