Working on a pony that has not been run for several yrs. One side had zero Comp. Removed head and intake stuck open. Tapped and started working fine. Worried sealing surface might be rusted or pitted. Removed other head and was fine shape. Both cylinder bores smooth as glass and no ridge what so ever. Replaced heads and both sides peak out at about 60 psi cranking with the starter. So the questionable valve seating must be OK as matches other cylinder. My manual does not give any testing pressures. Any ideas on this? Thanks, LB

I have never seen spects for pony engine compression in the service manuals !
I would install it and run it!

I'm sure Old Magnet will have some sort of information from experience. I did find some old post talking about 75 and 85 so I'm not too far off. I'm just trying to check out as much as I can before I decide to invest money in the pony. If I can limit my expenses to carb and mag parts it will not cost too much but if more is needed I might just go electric. Thanks for the reply, LB

Never have seen any published specs on pony compression pressures. That 75-85 psi I recall as being the highest pressures that anyone had seen. 60 psi isn't bad as they still seem to run ok as low as 40-50 psi but got to be losing out on hp.

Remember to block the throttle open when testing.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
