Well its been a long road but I finally got all the planets to align themselves. After a few years of searching for a 25 CCU, rebuilding it, finding tires for the scraper and changing them out, and then attending to a bunch of "little issues" on the D6, today I finally got them all hitched up and working together.

Everything worked well but I need to tighten up the spring to hold the bowl up when its loaded.👍

My question is for a 1D 60 scraper what size cable and how much is required to restring it, and how much "extra" cable should I leave on the spools? Thanks.

Pete

Thanks Ron - Sounds like you've done pretty well yourself. With all the nice weather lately it sure makes it nice to move dirt and get work done! Just wish there were more hours in a day and I had enough energy to last them all.

Hi, Old Magnet.
Please correct me if I am wrong but I think Cat used 1/2" cable on ALL of their CCU's, front and rear mounted, and all their cable controlled machines, didn't they?

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

I forgot to ask one other thing. Does it matter what wire size/grouping/lay the cable is? As you all know there is several types of 1/2" cable.

Cable spec. is 1/2", 6 x 19 filler wire, right Lang lay, independent wire rope center, preformed improved plow steel type.

With the exception of the apron lift cable on scrapers the entire line of equipment is designed for this particular cable for maximum efficiency, from the contour of the groove in the sheaves to the sheave size, sheave bearings and all working parts.

Thanks once again O.M. In what publication does Cat spec out cable types and where they should be used. I have never seen a spec in any of my parts, service, operators, etc. manuals. Just curious.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
