rustoleum paint vs cat paint

The color maybe close, but the paint is different. The oil in the base is different than the normal implement paint. You may be able to coat over the implement paint, but will most likely will have problems if you put the implement paint over the Rustolem.

Check/compare the MSDS. As far as I know they are both Alkyd Enamels.

What is the part number of the paint you are using?

Looked up the "Old Highway Yellow" 4C-4185 and it's an entirely different composition than the Rustoleum.

As tw said, probably ok to put the Rustoleum over the Cat paint but not vice versa.

Appears Cat paints are a "Valspar" product according to the MSDS sheets.

The Rustoleum is definitely an alkyd enamel.

They are both Alkyd Enamels, but the base build is different. I am sure the anti rust paint uses a different base that makes it the anti rust product it is. Not all Alkyd Enamels are the same and compatable. I recently looked into getting a store brand of this paint to paint a pole barn. The prices were about the same, but the thinner was $20 per gal compared to regular paint thinner at $5 per gal. I have sprayed both types of paints. The Alkyd Enamels are not all compatable with each other. and not all hardners will work in all Alkyd Enamels. So do some checking before you have a pile of cottage cheese( non edible of course)
