Did anyone ever offer a spin-on oil filter kit for the D4-5T?
If so, are they still available?

Thanks,
C. D. Hunter

I appreciate the info, but isn't that kit referenced in the thread a full flow filter for the existing cansister setup?

Thanks,
C. D. Hunter

Right you are:D :D Sorry
The spin on exists but I never had much luck tracking down the parts to get it done. Maybe there is some new info out there.
The pictures are D6 but it's the same set up for the D2 & D4, early (not to early) and late.

Old Magnet:

Did you ever run to ground any information on the change over parts to convert from canster type to spin on as in the pictures you posted. Seems like there was a fellow by the name of New Farmer who has a 9UD6 with the change over on it that has posted on the BB in the past. I think you asked him about the parts for conversion once before but he never responded back.

It would be considerable easier to change filters and less messy with the spin on.

I would be interested in seeing what it would cost for the conversion or if the parts are available. Hope your doing well, and your help would be appreicated.
Woody.

Hi Woody,
Never did get much info on the installation parts and I kinda forgot about it.
I see in my notes a part # 6H1840 but I am not sure if that is for an adapter or the filter. I'll check with local Cat contact again in a couple of days and see if that number applies or maybe some new info. Any one out there know?

OM - my apologies for not replying to your post. Been busy working on the D6D and field work.

The number I posted (you mention in your post) was found on the side of the spin-on filter housing. I assumed it was the part number. As I said before, I didn't do the conversion so I simply have to go off of what's stamped on the side.

The bottom of the housing has a plug so you can drain the oil out of the filters before spinning them off. You'll still get a little mess. The better option would be to invert the housing so the filters hang down. Similar to the D6D or Challenger 65's.

If you need a picture or two from a different angle let me know.

C.D. This is your adopted cousin K.Hunter from back in eastern Pa. & Cat years ago made a full flow kit to change over the by-pass to full flow but as of now I understand only separate parts are available to do it. At the shop I changed over dozens of them over to the full flow & they worked out good.It only has the element to change & not the screen in it to have to wash out so saves some time & mess. I like the handle you use on the site here.I shortened mine to SJ as it used to be Stumpjumper & got it from an old welder that used to work with me & he called this other good friend of his a Stumpjumper or a Ridge Runner as he lived up in the mountain section here in NE PA.

Hi NWFarmer,
Thanks for your response.
I turned in a request to our local "Ace" Quinn Caterpillar parts man along with that part number and the two pictures. If anyone can find it Mike McCormick can. Here is his response so far as of 6/18:

[Pete, this is a new one for me.I will have to do some research. It may be
that these are off of an industrial engine or some other type of equipment
besides a tractor.I will see what i can find out for you!!!!]

If anyone has already done this drill and can further identify details please "speak up"
