I bought some custom cut cedar from a mill where the head rig was run by one of these engines. This one had been in service on some piece of little-used equipment on the railroad and had bee tossed in the junk. An employee saved it for the sawmiller who put it into service with no repairs required, and it started easily and ran great. Very impressive for power too. Dandy engine.
The big question is did it follow you home.
Local Caterpillar dealers have one on display that I believe is similar. Wish it was at my place.
It drove a pump note the supercharger addition.![]()
Hi WF,
yep, the boss bought it off me some years back.
I rebuilt it out of 2 engines. It was a standby fire pump engine and had rust pitted/holed liners, so was full of water and had run until seized. Used parts from another engine, Standby genset, that had failed due to fuel dilution-- a common problem with these engines, as they had the fuel system under the side covers.
The two engines were originally from scraper tractors, 8W Dw21's, that worked on the upgrade to Eildon Weir here in Victoria back in the '50's.
The owners at the time rebuilt the engines into the stationary units as the scrapers were pretty much scrap after the job.
The unit attracted a lot of attention at the 100 Years Diesel Rally at Lake Goldsmith a few years back. I got to run it again.
MMmm, the blower sounded as good as ever as did the deep sharp exhaust note of a supercharged engine.
Pic below is from our local Steam Rally I was displying it at with a pump.
Used to draw people from all over the rally site when it fired on the pony. It sounded great at full load.
Cheers,
Eddie B.![]()
Hi guys,
As much as I want to look at the pictures, I get the image of a toad in an ice cube displayed instead of the picture of Cat Quad want me to see.
It also displays text: "Domain unregistered to view register at bit.ly/imageshack-domain" as part of the image:
What do I need to change/setup to be able to view the Cats (instead of looking at a frozen toad)?
Thanx
Very nice blown 13000 would Lovvvvvve to see some more Pics Thanks mike
