I am going to order a service book for this "old girl" so I don't have ask nine million questions. Any suggestions on which book would be best for overall care of this machine? I will order off ebay

she might be a bit stiff if it hasnt been turned in a while mate. might need a bit of oil and working backwards and forwards to get it to turn freely
you really have to give it to it to tighten it back up when your done as well or the whole assembly will spin loose and you will lose any clutch action. some fellas on here remove the inspection plate underneath the cluth and attack it from there. try to get someone else on top to knock it in and out of gear and pull the clutch lever. makes life easy
heres another piccy to show you what your trying to get at.

Hi Brian,
the best book for General Maintainance, Opertating, and Lubrication Instructions is the grey OMI (Operator's Maintainance Instructions) booklet. Form No 12244

It has "how to" on all the above items with regards servicing, adjusting and operating the unit. It may also be listed as form/no FEO12244, the -11 after the form/no is the change level as upgrades were made to the machines or proceedures were changed---usually changes to the oils needed as oils improved over time.

The books mentioned above, in other posts, are the Servicemen's Reference Books. These generally do not give all of the actual adjustments, service points or adjustment clearances.

Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Hi,
Similar question to the original one in this thread and am interested in adjusting the drive clutch of a D4D.
I'm unable to locate and view the instructions below.

Dad is using two mighty D4Ds. The newer one we have a parts book/service manual on order but it hasn't arrived yet and we are in reasonable urgent need of some help.

Thanks
Jed

Hi Team,
hope this helps.
As you have not given a Serial Number I guess the procedures for both dry and wet M/C are needed, just in case, as they are different.

For the Dry M/clutch, the method I have given is for an earlier machine with two housing openings--yours should have one big cover on top to access the adjustment by but otherwise is much the same setup.

If you have a wet/oil M/clutch do not over tighten the lock plate nuts as the studs are soft and will strip easily--sort of rough fix for this is to run a 5?16" UNF die nut down the stripped 3/8" stud to save pulling the clutch out to replace the filed stud.
If when you loosen the lock plate nuts and the plates do not release you just need to give the end of the stud a light tap with a hammer and punch.

Serial Number helps us give you the correct data. Cat only deal in S/No's as they continually updated machines with improved Parts etc. as the need arouse, and the updated Part Numbers are effective from this point as dictated by Serial Number.
It is likely yours has an Australian Serial No which I can convert to USA Equivalent S/No's if needed. USA S/No books are easier to get as Cat Of Australia only printed enough books here for the machines built plus a few spares back in the day.

Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
