Ok!
Here’s three more pictures of a McCoy Special, we have to give “Tracklayer” the credit for these pictures, and as well as one’s already posted. He did the research back in 2005 and posted it on the old ACMOC board. My understanding is he had a close connection with someone, maybe more than one, who worked for McCoy Co. years ago that helped him with the information as well as the pictures.


I have included an action photo of a dirt spread showing a McCoy Special pushing some LeTourneau scrapers, along with a 13A’s pushing as well, project is unknown, to me as least.



C.L. Hubner & Company from Denver, CO (large dirt Contractor in the state at the time) had a McCoy special on HI-way 40, a 7 mile road job east of Craig, CO in early 50’s, I was told it had a heating issue so was not there all that long.

Now, if we can get the swichy, OM, or someone else to save these for a future date we’ll be Ok. Enjoy.

Swishy-it's the same motor in the twin stacts and single stack by looking at them. That old D8 that I remember seeing was the old DW20 twin stack motor. I kinda remember them saying the reason for the bigger radiator was to prevent heating problems. But I do know it was one heck've machine.

Roots blower is the dead giveaway...it's a Mccoy-

Hey “Boss” take a little closer look at the pictures, you can see the old Root blower and the slick lines of the old D337 engine, and one has to remember that the old DW-20’s and 21’s had twin stacks on their D337 engines as well. You will note the stacks are further apart than on the Hi-Out Put, which were closer together. One has to remember on the Hi-Out Put, Caterpillar only added the twin stacks, with twin air cleaners and tweaked with the fuel and the RPM’s a little to increase the horse power, but was still the same old D13000 engine. The McCoy specials were whole new ball game as you know. I don’t recall any discussions on here, or in the saloons of late about the stacks, we’ll leave that for another discussion at a later date Mate. Take care and syl.

Great addition to this thread Swishy, I have missed seeing you on here, I hope you have been well.

Saw one at the Albany Mn. show back in 2002. You might try looking back to around that time in the ACMOC Magazine and see if there is anyone that you might contact.
