Hello, newbie here. Below is my recent purchase that will be used to clear my 39 acre mesquite and cactus forest.

For some reason Caterpillar can't seem to give me the correct year. I have talked to several people there and I have been told it's a '49, '56 and a '58. I think it may be a '58.
Everythying on it works at this point. It has been converted to use a starter but the pup motor still runs and is on the machine. The only problems I have is that the left final drive leaks and I had to replace the fan belt. That was a job.

Post your serial number, someone will have the correct year.
Pretty good looking old D6, they are quite a machine. Mine has also been converted to elec. start.

Serial # on tractor 9U10709
Serial # on engine 9U23310
Also, I have been searching the net and am looking for a service manual. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Need to know model & serial no.of your Cat before a year can be determined. There should be a tag on the back of the finale drive housing.Have fun with your new toy.

Now I'm really cornfused
! I guess the motor was replaced for some reason? I had a heck of a time getting the correct belt for it. Holt Cat ordered it three times before the correct one finally came.
I gues order engine parts off of the 9U23310 and the other tractor parts use 9U10709???

Either the engine has been changed or the rear housing has been changed. Yes I would order parts for the engine by the number on the block.
Ebay is the place to get manuals. I have about a full set for mine and thats where I got 'em.
Here is a page on the other board with D6 serial numbers.
