Deas,
Thanks for bringing this subject back up again. We always welcome input on what models our members want. CCM's success certainly begs the question of if we should get into the 1:48/1:50 scale business. I think our 1:25 D9E, especially at the presale price, was a better value than CCM's 1:48 D9H at their price, but undoubtedly the smaller scale helps them get to a lower price point. I'd like to hear comments on what people would think of if ACMOC got into the smaller scale vs. the larger, more detailed models we are doing currently.

Dave:
I vote for the larger models. It seems the last discussion revealed that we do the D4 4G through possibly the 7U with the 9M D5 thrown in. Bigger is better.👍

Hi, Dave Tallon.
I do agree that the ACMOC 1/25th scale models are better value for what we are getting than the CCM 1/48th scale models - which I think possibly goes to reinforce my point, that popular models will sell. I even know of several people among my small group of friends who would buy a well-done model of a Euclid TC12 cable dozer if one were to become available but that is a tractor of an entirely different color.
From my own viewpoint, I am going to need to be EXTREMELY selective about what future models I purchase 'cos I am looking at retiring in about 2 years time, living in a trailer home and becoming a grey nomad. How-wevver, I would FIND some space for either a D9G or a DD9G - or both, especialy the later side-hydraulic-tank models. I spent quite a few hours on these jiggers and still think they were one of the sweetest machines I ever operated. The only integrated-steering dozer that I ever operated that came close to being as controllable was a 44X D5B.
For a wheeled model, I would be interested in either a 12E or a 14E grader, with perhaps a slight leaning to the 14E, as I have also spent many hours on both of them and still enjoy a chance to do so.
I think I would also try to find space for a Best Sixty and/or a Cat gas Sixty or especially a Diesel Sixty. I think Tom Madden's Best Sixty 101A would be a good one to do. I suspect that they would 'walk out the door' if sold alongside his real thing at a show sometime.
I would like to thank you, Dave, for your input into the ACMOC model progarm and into the models themselves. I hope the issue of the front idlers being in the high position instead of the low position on previous dozer models has been resolved.
Thanks also to all model committee members, past and present, for your assistance in keeping the club financially solvent.
Just my 0.02.
My two cents.
I'm not sure about the D4. I recall the thread started about the possibility of producing a D4 which generated a lot of positive comments about a D4. But, it was a D4 thread.
Previous threads were leaning towards a D9G or a D82U. I think a survey of the members would be beneficial to see what the majority want ( and would buy).
The smaller 1:50 or 1:48 scale are the common international construction scales and almost identical in scale. Models in those scales attract the construction collectors because it fits in with their other models.
Classic Construction Models has done a good job of surveying collectors and then developing models the collectors want. Those are the ones that are sellouts.
Why not creat a poll in the sticky section of the BB with several models to choose from.
This may give a better idea of the amount of intrest for each model that is being considered.
Hi all....I ordered the three D9s and the McCoy 666 back in February last year. I was told that the D9s had already been pre-ordered, but I would go on the list if anyone backed out. About two months ago Gary at CCM told me the D9s did not meet their expectations when delivered and by the time issues were sorted out it could be several months. He also said the McCoy was not available, but I am now the proud owner of a regular 666 which I wll pick up when I go to Canada on the 13th. Gary at CCM is very good to deal with, always replies to any queries promptly.
My ACMOC wish list in 25th scale
DW21
D9G s blade 4 barrel rippers
992 on beadless tyres
All preferably made by First Gear
Hello Dave - To answer your first question I believe the club would be better off staying with the larger scales as opposed to the smaller scales. I have some of the smaller scale classic models like the Norscot 977 and 966 and while they are nice they are not as appealing as the 1:24 and 1:16 scale models. It seems the model makers can provide a better level of observable detail with the larger scales.
My next question is to the model committee. Has anyone done research on the models that have been produced vs. their production and sales numbers. There has been all this talk about which models would or would not sell but it seems the club should already have a good idea on what is popular and what is not. I've never seen production/sales numbers on the D2's, R2, 22, 20, D9's, DW-21, Holt 77. What about Gilson Riecke's antique Cat models? I would think a little analysis could help the model committee greatly.
A few members have mentioned making a poll on the BB. Although this can't guarantee actual sales numbers it could prove very useful to narrow down the possibilities.
The last thing I want to add comes from being a model collector for a little over 20 years. The producing of a model that has been done previously by another model manufacturer can detract from both the new and old model. The older model can loose a little of its collectability while the new model is not as appealing because someone else has already made a model of it. Good luck!
I would like a D4 series or at least 2 or 5 T. 1/24 scale would be great. I managed to get a 666 and "think" I can get the DD9H.
