Does anyone know if such a thing exists? I thought I saw them advertised one time, but perhaps I was dreaming. Thanks Or, howabout any other side-draft carbs that are easy to substitute/adapt to work?

Bill Campball the fellow that does rebuild them was trying to have one made out of brass, but it was very $$$$.So he stopped it.I was told sometime ago that a carb off of a John Derre B would work.It would be nice to have something that worked a little better then the orignal carbs.

Thanks HiCrop. I agree about it being nice to have an option. For example, on the early Jeep 4 cylinders, you can buy a replacement Solex carb. It is not exact duplicate of origional, but will bolt up in place of the origional, and has better performance than the origionals. I think this would be a great option, but I know the #'s are much smaller for the tractors than Jeeps (in terms of potential sales).

VW Solex carbs are easy to find, cheap, and adapt to a lot of engines. If my pony carb was corroded I might have used one. At work we are a Weber and DelOrto dealer. There are many adaptors for sale, but i have made them using as little as a drill, hole saw, and die grinder. You can calculate the size carb needed here, http://www.gtsparkplugs.com/CarbCFMCalc.html

That's true the solex's are fairly inexpensive, but the VW carbs are downdrafts, and we need a sidedraft for the tens and fifteens. I will look around when I have some time. Perhaps if you have time Ab, see if solex or someone has a sidedraft model available?

Oh, I forgot how it mounts. Non of our suppliers make a single-barrel side draft that I am aware of, but we do have a pile of nasty old SU and Strombergs, if you want to complicate things. Solex did make a side draft for early VW Squarebacks, but they are pretty rare in the USA. I have a few updrafts in the shed, but they are for big straight eights.

even a sutiable updraft, making a elbow with flanges wouldent be a big deal,Not something I would do for a nice machine but workable for a log skider

I have considered converting a rough pv15 I have to a throtle body fuel injection set up
for a project, likely salvage the stuff of a small GM car.

Lke I need another project

I saw a 10 with a downdraft carb on it last year. I have a parts 10 out back with a plumbing elbow and an Zenith updraft on it.

Good discussion guys, thanks for the ideas. Oh and Willie, I'll have to look into the Model T carbs, I think I have access to one for measuring.

Willie, do you have any pictures of motorcycle carbs or any ideas what carbs they were? Our carb seems ok now that we have a new top for it but its expensive to work with and I'm not that impressed with how well it responds to adjustment. Carbs today are so much better than the Ensigns.
