I wasn't looking for a D8. I don't really need a D8 although I have a projects that I can use it for. Mostly I couldn't pass it up as an investment as an antique Cat. The guy sold the property and it needs a new home. It is
1H 4155 SP, I gave the guy $1500 for it. The part that swings the deal is it is only 6 miles form home.

Not a bad looking old D8. For $1500 you sure can't go wrong. The gods must be smiling on you to find one that close to home.

Someone has added a hardnose and CAT CCU, that's good. That old slide shift will build some musle on a cool morning.

Being as it's that close you can drive it home.
Is it in the Sierra or near the coast? (I'm guessing in the Sierra.)

The CCU and hardnose setup is definately from a newer Cat. I don't think they came out with those untill the late '40's. I'm sure the FOPS is homemade but it is not too bad and quite servicable. It's an Antique Tractor in disguise.
Daron,
It is in Mariposa County, lots of old Cats hiding up here. It is probably only a few miles away as the crow flies. There is a big ranch between here and there that I might be able to get permission to go through. The Cat is in an area of 5 acre parcels so it might be problematic getting to the big ranch.

The D8-1H could be had with either the 4F6213 #24 mounting group or the 3F6648 #25 mounting group units including hard nose which had spacer blocks to deal with the open frame mounting. These early attachments could be identified by the vertical rib on the grill. The later 8F1932, 8F1046 and 8F1933 were also correct mountings for the 1H1-up

Old Magnet, can you tell from these pictures if it is the stock setup? It would be nice if it were then I wouldn't have to worry about it being a ba*tardized antique.
It had me fooled when I first looked at it, I thought maybe it was a 2U but could not find the serial no to confirm it. The serial no is near the front of the engine and the CCU covers the rear one.
Thanks,
Tom

Those pictures are to fuzzy to really tell but the hard nose looks right.
How right on do you want to be?? If it was purchased on the tractor new the cable unit would have been a 9Rxxxx series (worm gear drive) or the Le Tourneau Model R power Control. The #25 cable control came later but is appropriate attachment. To tell what you have for sure would need the serial number for the CCU and the blade

I am having difficulty determining when the hardnose and ccu units came into production although it fits back to the 1H1 model. Could be the Letourneau cable option was it in the 30's. The literature I have on the 9R ccu is 1942, and I show your model as 1939 production so most likely the set up was added later but definitely not a bas***dized set up.

The hardnose looks like the one on my 8R, except that I have the #24 CCU on the front. Someone told me (I don't remember who now) that Cat started making thier own CCU's in 1944 and hydraulics in '46. I figured that the hardnose was made to retrofit a Cat blade setup to an earlier tractor.
