My latest D2 (that had a stuck diesel) is getting close to being ready to attempt a start. I had to remove the #44 pump so I could get the fan belt on (at least, that is the only way I could figure out to get the shaft on the front pulley out the way). Since the pump is off and I see some leakage at the top where the control lever is located, I was going to replace the seals. Can someone give me the number for the seal at the top? That seals where the control shaft comes out. Is it a lip seal or and O-ring? I already have the number for the seals that go on the main shaft.

Thanks for any help.

I have the same issue and I purchased that seal however the OD is about 1/8" too large for my pump so it doesn't fit in the hole. (Pn#1j2382). I can't read the sn on my pump so I was wondering if anyone can lend a hand with this guessing game. The only other seal I could find was about half the size of this one. Way too small. I just need one that is slightly smaller. Machine SN#d2 5u10131. Thanks.

Here is another thread of where the guys here helped me to identify and fix a shaft leak on my #44 hydraulic pump. http://www.acmoc.org/bb/showthread.php?7627-No-44-Hydraulic-seal-leaking&highlight=Cysco

Do you know if the seals referenced in that thread are the same as Cat Part#1J-2382?

Great ideas with he double seals and sleeves. I won't be happy if I have to take this apart twice.

These are the dimensions for PN# 1J-2382 according the Cat specifications:

Shaft OD: 28.58 mm
Axial Width: 22.23 mm
Bore Diameter: 47.6 mm
Seal OD: 47.7 mm
Material: Nitrile Rubber (NBR) - 75 Duro
Construction Type: DB

So, the seal OD is 1.88" and I'm probably looking for something around 1.75". I'll probably end up just getting the micrometer out and taking my best shot with the aftermarket stuff.

I spent plenty of time searching through all of the #44 pump microfiche at Caterpillar recently. I never found the correct seal. In the end I used the Speedi Sleeve part listed above and Timken/National seal number 470045. Dimensions listed below. I hope this helps others. My #44 pump looks to be the same as most of the others with the exception of this seal outside diameter. Odd.

Hi Team,
I may be wrong--too long since I did one of these at The Dealer--but I seem to have a hazy recollection that the 2 seals were held inside another case to keep them a pair of seals put together to be one seal ???
I stand to be corrected.
This could be your seal bore diameter shortfall--the case is still in the housing.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Haven't been following this thread but edb's post jogged my memory....and I believe he was the source of info.

Took Cat forever to get this simple design right. Must have been very late in production cause you seldom see this arrangement.

No, that is not my config. Wish it was. Looks much better.

I thought part of a seal wall might be stuck in there too but the old one came out entirely and I sure can't see or scrape up a lip or edge to peel it out if there is something there.

Thanks for the ideas.

How hard is it to remove those bushings?

What holds the control rod up? Does it just sit on the seal until you put the lever part on?
