Just thought it would be good to share a few photos of my 4T in action.

Video of the beast working on a site alongside a more modern cousin:

Me playing with ploughs; we made up a hitch to pull two 6 furrow ploughs:

Hi Nick, That's great footage, I would be interested in details of the multi-hitch. I have a late model ransomes hexatrac like the one in your video and I'd like to pull another (another hexatrac or a multitrac) behind it with my D7 7M
I'd also be interested next time you get the 4T out for some ploughing.

Hi John

If you recall it was you that started me down this line. You posted an old pic of a 7 pulling 21 furrows on the CMN board!!

The 7 pulled the 12 with no bother at all. I have got another TS 69 Hexatrac and I can feel the urge to move on to 18 furrows!! I couldnt find much about the linkage, I looked hard at a number of old photos and took some notes from an old Ransomes book but it didnt have any detail. The trick was to get the geometry right to keep a staright pull. I made a wider front hake bar and then ran a rod back to my hitch for the second plough that was bolted to the back of the front plough. Hitch was hinged at the beam and had a castor wheel on the end. we added a sliding hitch so that we could adjust the second plough position back down into the furrow.

All worked well and we even managed on a narrow headland no bigger than we needed for one plough, the second plough still pulled straight even when the crawler and the first plough were on the headland turning. Needs a few mods, one of which is a stronger hake bar. Main mod is to strip down the second plough and get it straightened out and matched up to the first one.

I was so busy playing with the thing I didnt get any photos. Attached is one that I was given that shows a bit more of the hitch. Dont look too closely at the workmanship, we knocked it up in a hurry the day before the trial! I had never ploughed with the 7 before, never used the second plough (an early hexatrac, not a TS69) and certainly never ploughed with a double hitch before. So it made absolute sense to try it all out in front of a crowd at an open day!

Finally made it to the treble hitch at the weekend; 18 furrows behind the D7. Too busy to grab anything more than a couple of poor photos on the phone. The field was just over 400 yards long so covering half an acre on each bout. back plough was a slightly different model to the front pair and we couldnt get it running properly. still, never mind the quality, feel the width!!

Also a very poor attempt at video, very hard to film and drive the thing at the same time!!

Some more photos of the three plough rig, plus a couple of the steam plough set that was working alongside.

You can see the problems that I had in stting up the rig, each plough has to follow the one in front and the last one was not dropping the wheel into the open furrow properly at first. A bit of fettling and working the linkage across and we eventually got it to follow somewhere near.

Also a couple of photos of my Fowler VF and one with the original driver from the 1940's alongside it. Ron was over the moon to discover his beloved tractor still running!

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
