I just put new tracks on the dozer, sprockets and idlers are almost new, I replaced 2 bottom rollers the rest of the bottom rollers look okay (around 40/50%) will I be hurting the new rails by running them over rollers that arent all the same exact height, should all of the rollers be replaced at the same time, or can I wear out the remaining rollers that still have life remaining, thanks jbeam

Hi jbeam,
My opinion is that all the rollers should be the same unless one is just getting by for a short time. If the rest of the tracks are new, I would make it all new and replace all the rollers.
I have a 4 roller D-4 7U and I started with replacing the two front and the two back rollers and leaving the two used middle rollers on each side. It rode like a piece of crap. I would not have believed that little difference in the middle rollers would make that much difference. I replaced all the rollers three weeks later. In my opinion, replace them all or rebuild all at the same time.

I just replace the back two or the front two when they get warn. I have not noticed any difference in the ride. If you replace the middle two in the long run you will be throwing 50% life of the rollers away. I generally replace the front or rear two and build back up the middle rollers along with the carrier roller.

It's advisable to have all rollers as close as possable to the same size. I recomend replacing a lost roller with a good used one of as close to the size of the others as you can get. A new full size one will run hard under the machine and wear fast. Undercarrage parts all work together and wear together.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
