Is this a real engine production engine, or maybe a special display model?

This question came up a short time ago & if it,s what your thinking of they were a 1 cyl. engine that Cat made up & they were used for lube testing etc. I have seen one or two at tractor shows & they were interesting to see. The last one I saw in Ohio to an antique equip. show & it was made up from an old D17000 V-8 engine that Cat made years ago but the engines I saw were just one cyl. & cut down to one cyl.

Is this 60 engine one of the H. Kaiser diesel conversions?

(It came up while watching the 'Cat one cylinder?' video.

I have the spec sheet on a Cat 1 or 2 cylinder engine. the model # for this engine is the 800 G. It was used on some of the old pull graders. It was gas powered.

Go over on the www.antiquecaterpillar.net and go to the technical Q. & A. and go down to "Strange Cat Engine on Youtube" for the discussion.

Yep, I had one, was on my old 44 grader, sold the engine last year on ebay for about 800 dollars, it ran and I had it indoors, needed a paint job and thats about it, had a sticky valve though so I would pop off the air cooled head and loosen up the valve to get it started. The grader is still used for minor road maintenance, has been converted to hydraulics.

Daron, this is an Atlas conversion tractor done by H. Kaiser, it is the only known " Original " and is shown at all the big /good shows in the U.K., the owner has done a fantastic job having this tractor restored, it is some animal to start with compressed air at about 300 psi.

Know that 1 cyl Cat oil test engine well. Almost original, owner just had to make a couple of parts to get it going. The movie was taken at the Tri-State Tractor show at Portland Indiana. Is there every year, and the owner only lives a few miles from the show grounds.

Just one of the 2000 or so engines that are at that show every year.

There was one of these on eBay about 3 or 4 years ago. It was used in a college test laboratory and was out in Washington State somewhere. As I remember, it didn't bring all that much money. I remember emailing the auction # to Jeff Huff, he said it was too far away for him. It looked very complete and original and was always inside. 😊 Dave!

The May 12, 1995 Caterpillar Folks (an in-house paper) had a good write-up on this engine. It's still in production and going strong since 1932. I'll try to attach the article if I can, but this is new stuff to me. If I don't succeed, maybe I could email it to someone so that they could get it on the Board. You can email me at "[email protected] " without the quotations.

Three Parts Books that I am aware of are: UE070082 published May 1967; SEBP1408 published 12-82 and SEBP 1299 published 12-80. I hope this helps.
