I also am curious about this, I will be the 22 clutch re-assembly stage shortly, and i still haven't been able to find the 1179 book for the 10 15 and small 20. And have been searching for one for quite a while. Someone out there must know.

Hi Team,
I have never worked on one of these units so I can only suggest the following seeing no-one else has responded as yet, I will speak in general terms for this type clutch as it is shown in the cutaway drawing in my Parts Book.
The Parts Book cutaways are usually exactly as the parts are machined by shape and positioned in the assembly. The Clutch cutaway shows the nuts being set at about 1 full thread below the top face of the studs.
Provided the clutch stack height/thickness is somewhere near spec. the clutch should have enough freeplay in the spring coils to release correctly/fully and also not slip when operating at full load.
The only other thing to consider is that if the spring tensions vary from each other you may have to tighten some more than others to get the clutch to disengage squarely and therefore engage smoothly without shudder.
Others with experience of the 22 clutch may have more to add or correct me if I have erred!!!
If it were my clutch the above is how I would address the problem, and then see how it operated.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
