I've been out of touch with the pump packing business for a number of years. Quite awhile ago a person could buy pump packing that was graphite impregnated and later on some more modern materials like teflon. I worked one summer forming pump packing with a large hammer and forming tools 😞 (probably the main reason I came to my senses and went to college) LOL.

I need to repack a water pump on a Cat 20. Any recommendations on where I might go to buy a small amount (don't need 400 yards of graphite rope)?

Thanks,
Tom

Go to your Cat dealer and ask for a small spool of it as they always did sell it. I looked for the part number but just couldn,t locate it here in my files. If you get some post the part number and I,ll put it in my files for another time.It is treated with graphite also.

A good hardware store should have it in their plumbing supplies.

You can buy it through any of the online Ford Model A parts suppliers also.

THANKS ALL!

It looks like I got more than one option. I'll check M.C. first since I can get it online and after all, the leak has probably been going for a number of years. At least long enough to leave some deposits. I just want to fix it before I need to continually add water as I ride around.😮

I appreciate the help. I'll be getting more than I need, so if anybody needs some to pack a pump, drop me a email.

A marine supply (ie:West Marine), or some boat shops, will have the packing...It's used for the packing glands on propellor shafts...Maybe even ACE Hardware...
