After traveling for work 14 out of the last 16 years I've always earned a lot of hotel points. I used points to reserve a room at the HIE hotel in Portland, just noticed I screwed up and it's only for Thursday night, nothing for Friday. Much to my chagrin looks like we'll only be staying for one night. To make up for it I think we'll try to hit the road to the show a little earlier than originally planned, we'll shoot for 5:00 AM out the door. Usually takes us about 3.5 hours road time, I'll just need to be faster through the show and parts. Just feelin like a fool.

Bryan, I've been a platinum member of HIE for 15 years, and have been traveling 35-40 weeks a year for the last 30 years just retiring a year ago.(forced)๐Ÿ˜ž Quite often they'll have a cancelation so you can pick up another night. Talk to the manager in person (no phone call) not the desk person, HIE has manager saved rooms.
Good luck๐Ÿ˜†

64farmboy,

Looks like you've got me beat on the plaitnum membership at HIE, I've only been one for 8-9 years.๐Ÿ˜† I had planned on speaking to the manager when we arrived just as you recommend. We'll probably stop in before hitting the show just to check on a cancellation even though we most likely won't be able to check in, just to make the request. Still feelin like a fool.

I think the hotel in Bluffton still has vacancies (Bluffton inn). I called to confirm the other day and they fellow told me he would call if something was amiss. No news is good news, I guess.

Hey, Bryan.
Don't give up so soon. There are also hotels in Decatur that are only 20 minutes away (unless you get stuck behind one of those Indiana drivers doing 37mph on the two lane highway with limited passing opportunities. I call them "Indiots"). Also, the Tri-State club campgrounds across the road from the Fairgrounds has clean, decent shower facilities. I'm bringing my tent (the "Portland, Remington Grand Hotel").

Bryan๐Ÿ‘‹ Don't feel bad once on a rush emergency trip my travel person flew me from Albany NY into Seattle, had my room in LA and my rental Car in Phoenix. Luckily I was supposed to be in Seattle๐Ÿ‘

Good luck, have fun at the show

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
