I was talking to Tricia Potts, Executive Director of ACMOC, about a Southern California Chapter, and she expressed an interest in seeing a chapter started in SO. CAL. So my question to those of you that live in this area is, does anybody has interest in having one formed? and who would like to be some of the founding members? To get the ball rolling, we need six members and members willing to be on a board. I am on the board of trustees at the Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum in Vista, CA. At our next meeting I will ask them if they are interested being a host for ACMOC activities (ie. Play Days), I know Carl Sharp has had play days in the past. I have talked with Mike Bouris of Bouris Ranches in Menifee,CA and he shows interest, in the past Paul Smith (Al Smith's brother) was interested, Vista is his stomping grounds. Please let me know if your interested and want to be part.

Robert:

Tricia brought it up with me expressing that CA is way too big for just one chapter. I informally ran it up the flag pole with the Pioneer Day guys from SLO County and there may be some interest in having a local chapter. We will see what happens--I know I don't have time to head another project.

Anyone out there have an interest in putting something together? Probably could be Ventura, Santa Barbara, SLO, Monterey, San Benito and some of the valley counties if there is interest. We already have a couple of significant shows/parades in the area that we attend regularily so there could be a built in base already.

Thoughts?

Guys,

I couldn't agree more, that with the physical size of California, we could use multiple in-state chapters! A So. Cal chapter serving the southern area and the central coast is a great idea!

I would also propose that a Central California chapter could conceivably cover the central valley (Sacramento & San Joaquin) and perhaps also the eastern (Sierra Nevada) mountain areas.

While Chapter 5 is a wonderfully active chapter, and will always be our “charter chapter”, it’s a long drive for some in this very large state! The big question is, as Tom asks, are there other interested folks who would like to like to get involved with starting new chapters??? Anything worthwhile does take effort, with that said, at least share your thoughts!

I don't mind doing the work, if thats what it takes. I just want to know that there is some support out there from other members and those who would like to be involved in the process.

Maybe we can get this thread to be made "sticky", that way it doesn't have to get bumped because of the other threads. Being that its about growing ACMOC.

I would be interested in starting a Central Cal Chapter. And Aphonopelma is right up the road in Prather.

Recapping so far, we have the So. Cal - Hemet area, the San Joaquin Valley - Fresno area, and myself in the Sacramento Valley - Sacramento area. Oh my, of course let's not forget Tom at SLO, on the Central Coast! I think we'll need to charter a Learjet to pick us all up and take us home after the monthly meetings!

For me, still working full time, I'm likely stuck to a greater Sacramento Valley and eastern Sierra Nevada mountain area. If not, then it's the established Chapter 5, two hours away. I'm up to helping a new chapter, if it's less than two hours drive! Anyone in the Stockton, CA area interested?

Statewide though, we still need more chapters in CA! After all, this was the "birth state" of Best and Holt? We should have "tons" of chapters here! (Pun intended)

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
