Does anyone have a schematic of the steering clutch linkage as it connects to the steering lever to the clutch assembly? I brought my D2 5U12142 up from my back lot to my shop to once more look at that right hand steering clutch.
I pulled the steering clutch cover off and the right hand side appears to be stuck back in the disengaged position yet the right side is not actually disengaged as it seems to have full traction on that side. Pushing stumps both tracks will dig right in.
Is it possible to have a"cam over" condition with the linkage which is causing it to be stuck?
Anybody have any ideas?πŸ˜†
Thanks Dennie

No, I don't think anything like that is possible.

Most likely the clutch pack is swollen with rust between the plates and the pack is now as wide or wider than it would have been when released by the linkage when it wasn't full of rust.

You can attempt to adjust the clutches to take out all the free travel so you can get some slack in the pack when you pull the lever back, but the clutch will most likely still be stuck and remain stuck until you load it with a heavy load while holding the levers back.

Also possible that the release bearing has failed so that the yoke doesn't pull on the inner drum any longer.

Howdy Dennie

This might help put things in perspective.

CC and Billy,πŸ‘‹ Thanks for the reply, I know I'm just delaying the inevitable of taking the darn thing apart. I've been using the machine hoping it will let lose. I still got some more work to do around here, a creek to clear out when it drys up a bit and my grandsons dirt bike track, so it'll be next winter when it comes apart anyway. I think the next thing I'll try is the old citric acic in the steering compartments.

Thanks Again
Dennie

I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
