Hi folks...
Im gong to reassemble my engine.
When i called the local Cat dealer they told me that there was no such thing as a D4400 engine.
I started wondering if I was loosing my marbles.
After a little reading here I find that they really did make a D4400.
Long story short, could someone give me the part numbers for the O-rings on the cylinder liners and if its not to much trouble the numbers for the gasket set would help.
have a new OEM head gasget but might end up with an extra one to get the rest of the gaskets.\
Thanks for the help in advance.
Regards Chris

I know there are atleast a dozen of you that have the numbers in your head.
You folks are a pretty well respected bunch.
Perhaps one of you might even have the parts book.
I would gladley buy it(not sure if im allowed to say that, mods please remove it if not).
Could I even buy the parts book from Cat?...need to know the number of that too I guess.
Thanks again
Chris

A parts book dosnt give a gasket set it only gives each gasket number. your liner is 2A3284 (4) gasket is 2a3520 (4) and seals are 2A3359 (😎 Head gasket is 4B3052 (1)

Look at page 24 or so of this PDF which is from the CAT legendary literature website in the power units section. You need to find the book for your serial number range. parts books are listed as PB, operator's manuals as OM etc.

Here are a couple of scanned images from my parts book.
You might need to clear up what this engine is out of, a serial # or a year.

The updated part numbers are now 3S3977

JVMMOPAR Does this look correct?

Olsen Gaskets quoted me $500.00 for the over haul gasket set and $242.00 for the pony motor.

You would be better off buying them piece by piece as needed.

Dratt. That first picture is a D315 I can't quite make out the SN range but I think it says 7U. The second definately is a D4400.

As for your local Cat partsman I would walk in there and tell him to get off his lazy but and pull his head out of his *** and look up the parts.

My patience for that is non existant.

Since working at this GM dealer and working with parts guys who are too lazy to look up parts because it interupts his magazine time. I have a very short temper when it comes to that. Even the local NAPA can be like that you have to PUSH them to dig deeper when trying to find parts. It always seems like if I need more than an oil filter that I have to get on the internet and find the part numbers myself then search for the parts. And as a mechanic you don't get paid for that.

Man you hit that nail right on the head! I've had the part number and if they can't bring it up in the computer they don't believe you! Fortunately we still have some privately owned parts stores around here that have old guys like me that can actually use the knowledge in their heads!

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
