hi i have a d6 tractor here in new south wales australia serial no 9u22992, and i was wondering if anyone could date this for me please. Also were having trouble with the pony engine, it is hard to start and then will only run for 5 mins or so, i am thinking the condenser and points as a start, but would welcome any suggestions

Hi, I don't think it's your mag at all I bet it's your carb they get real gummed up but a cat carb kit is about $180:rain: If it was your Mag it would probly back fire and stuff before it dies instead of just putter out.

hi thanks for the advice we haave done a pretty through clean of the carby, without taking any sealed plugs out , ive read there are one or two that you can remove to assist cleaning, the funny thing is it will run once in a day, then stop, as you say it just dies, then next day it will start, run for a while then stop, and will not start, it may fire a few times, but that is all, very frustrating as we have to travel 6hrs to get there and only stay for a few days...

How I tell right off the bat if it's the carb take off the air cleaner neck so that you can pour gas straight in the intake of the pony. You may need to make a little tank that's gravity flow ethier a water bottle with a little 3/16 hose coming out of it or a briggs and straton tank with a valvle that way you can control the flow because a little gas goes a long way.:fear: then just trinkle gas straight in it while it's running that should keep it running if it's your carb. It's a dianigose tool only not a long term solution. Good Luck!!!:whoo:

I second that... same thing would happen to me. Fuel bowl would run dry if my tank wasnt too full or I'd have to pull my fuel line and get a siphon going again cause I added one of those flow/see thru fuel filters....Thought maybe I had a mag problem until I kept an extra plug laying around..I did do a rebuild on the zenith carb, but I ordered the parts from a Cat dealer thanks to having individual part numbers. All except the float, mine was good on the d4/ht4 pony. Cost for parts I needed was $50 plus shipping.

thanks guy ...probally wont be back there for a few weeks...but will let you know how i get on....its great to get some feedback....ive been totally frustrated after 3 goes at it...the really weird thing is that it will not restart once it has run...then the next day it goes like a bomb...but it still takes a lot to get it going in the first place..ive tried all sorts of combo with the choke and throttle but it seems like pot luck in the end
