I have a couple of inop 300A welders with D3400 engines on them and have a 5J D2 which needs an infusion of parts. I'm guessing that most of the engine parts are interchangeable.
Curiosity asks what the years of manufacture are for the two 3400 engines. One is 3S7765 and the other is 1J7365.

Thanks, Daron

Hi Daron,
3S7765 is a 1946 model.
Could not find a D3400 Industrial with a 1J prefix but there is a D3400 01T7001-up listed in the SNID (no year given)

What I listed as a 1J is actually a 1T (1T7563SP). Did the 1T precede or supersede the 3S series? Curious minds.

Thanks, Daron

As the 3S was carried up to 1948 I'd say the 1T preceded but I can't find and date info in what I have.

When you do the parts infusion and figure out that cranks, cams, gears, rods, pistons, liners (all parts inside and outside the block) fit a J series engine. Maybe you can keep the good extra parts for resale? Someone is always looking for D2-J series engine parts.

Daron:

Your engines were built as follows:

1T7563...1943
3S7765...1946

Here is the entire lineup for the D3400 Industrial Engines:

9J4001 thru 9J4909 built '39, '40, '41
3R6001 thru 3R6975 built '41, '42
1T7001 thru 1T9928 built '42, '43, '44, '45
3S7001 thru 3S8235 built '45, '46, '47

Basically these engines were all the same rating. Different serial number blocks were assigned over the 9 year production run. The engine family was replaced with the D311 Industrial engine in 1947.

Thanks all for the info. It looks like I have 'donors' as needed.

Thanks again, Daron

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
